VORE Reaches Picture Lock, Advances Short-to-Feature Development

Schoolhouse Pictures’ upcoming horror short VORE has officially reached picture lock, marking a major milestone as the project continues its journey from proof-of-concept short to feature film.

Directed by Jason Avalos, VORE is the first cinematic entry into a larger horror universe currently in development at Schoolhouse Pictures. Conceived from the outset as a feature pipeline project, the short is designed to introduce audiences to the film’s unsettling mythology while serving as a calling card for the larger vision.

Picture lock was completed in collaboration with editor Jamie Wright, whose work helped shape the film’s escalating tension, surreal imagery, and psychological horror.

The production has also welcomed acclaimed composer Brad Verrier (Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Prodigy, Star Trek: Lower Decks) to create the original score, bringing a cinematic sonic identity to the project as it enters final post-production.

With editorial complete, the team now moves into sound design, score, final mix, and festival deliveries ahead of its festival premiere strategy.

“VORE was always meant to be more than a short,” says writer/director Jason Avalos. “It’s the first doorway into a much larger horror world we’re building at Schoolhouse Pictures.”
