Schoolhouse Pictures

Good to great.

Schoolhouse Pictures is an independent horror and genre production company building original, owned IP across film, television, and vertical formats.

Every title starts with a world worth expanding, then gets developed with real commercial discipline: locked scripts, scalable budgets, clear comps, and packaging that removes risk before a partner ever sits down. From proof-of-concept shorts to multimillion-dollar features — over a dozen titles currently in development.

Jason Avalos

Jason Avalos is an above-the-line filmmaker with over 12,000 hours leading on set across film, television, and branded production. Separately, his executive career includes years as Head of Development at Space Age Entertainment and Head of Film & TV at MPC Studios — a development track record built on taking material from good to great.

His genre credits include work behind the scenes on Tragedy Girls, Suitable Flesh (Shudder), Clock (Hulu), Hell Motel (Shudder), Find Your Friends (Shudder), Near Death, and Los Vampiros. His broader career spans work with DreamWorks, Paramount, Quibi, Hoorae Media, Funny or Die, and BuzzFeed.

He is the founder of Schoolhouse Pictures, an independent studio developing original horror and elevated genre entertainment across feature film, television, and vertical formats — original IP, developed with the craft of a filmmaker who has actually run sets, not just pitched from behind a desk.

"Schoolhouse started as a way to get stories made that nobody else was greenlighting. Fifteen years later, it's a horror studio with a slate and a real pipeline from short film to franchise. The roots haven't changed. The ceiling has."

We also build with others.

Some of our best work starts as someone else's project. Founder Jason Avalos brings two distinct track records to the table: above the line on set — over 12,000 hours leading productions as a director, producer, and actor — and behind the deal, with years as Head of Development at Space Age Entertainment and as Head of Film & TV at MPC Studios. That combination is the studio's edge: the development instinct to find what a project needs, and the on-set fluency to actually deliver it. Taking material from good to great is what we do. Schoolhouse actively partners on co-productions, development, and packaging — if you have a project that needs a sharper edge, we want to see it.
